Three Muses Challenge: "Vintage"
For this challenge (http://thethreemuseschallenge.blogspot.com/2010/10/three-muses-vintage-week-72.html) , I used a portrait of my maternal grandmother, Beckie Fox, as the centerpiece of my digital collage. I've been thinking a lot about her since last week, when our art journaling teacher asked the class to create a page on the theme of "a place we used to go, but no longer have access to." I immediately chose to write and create art about "Grandma's Kitchen." Beckie was born in Eastern Europe and came to the United States in the early 1900's. She lived in Baltimore, Maryland with her husband Harry, raising five daughters (whose families also remained in Baltimore), and becoming very active in the local Jewish community (and a fabulous cook).
I've been starting to create digital collages with some of the many "heritage" photos that are now in my possession, and this is one of my favorites so far.

I'm so glad we had a small part in inspiring this beautiful heritage piece. I've done heritage collages with many of my ancestors as well. I treasure them, as you will treasure yours. Thank you for participating in our challenge this week, Sherry!
