Collage Obsession: Mushrooms

Eila at Collage Obsession has challenged us to do a mushroom-themed collage. I have to admit, I never thought to use mushrooms as art inspiration; but when Eila described picking mushrooms in the forest in Finland (where she lives), I was inspired to create this digital collage. Images by Holliewood and Google Images.

Sunday Postcard Art: Comic Book Heroes/Heroines

Sunday Postcard Art has quite an original, fun theme this week: Comic Book Heroes/Heroines. I had to do some research for this one, and discovered a cool super-heroine that Stan Lee of Marvel created in 1980. I'd never heard of her before, have you? Here she is. All images are from Google Images/Marvel.

I'm so excited that my blog is featured this week in the "Best of the Web" feature on Pocket Change, a shopping/lifestyle blog. Here's a link to their article. I'm going to browse around their site right now-- it looks like there's lots of helpful info there! Thanks for the mention, Pocket Change!

Three Muses Challenge (rethought): Black and White with Touch of Color

Today I was rethinking how to make yesterday's ferris wheel collage more black and white, and less pink, and came up with this version. I think it fits the new Three Muses challenge better.

Collage Obsession and Three Muses Challenges

The theme for Collage Obsession this week is "circus/carnival/amusement park." The Three Muses Challenge asks us this week to create a piece using only black and white and one other color. I've combined both concepts into this digital collage of a Ferris wheel, using an image provided by Anna Corba that I altered considerably.

Take a Word: Tattered

I was asked to provide the sample for this week's Take a Word challenge, with the theme of "Tattered." Here's my digital collage for this theme. Image credits: dover, holliewood, last door down the hall, magic moonlight.

Sunday Postcard Art: Circus

So many circus themes lately! This digital collage is a little different from my usual colorful circus pieces, relying on just red, black, and white. Image credits: divas d'este, beth rimmer, flickr creative commons (plaisanter).

Three Muses: Mail Art Invitation

The Three Muses have challenged us this week to create a piece of mail art in the form of a fictitious invitation to our blogger friends. Here's mine:

Collage Obsession: Footprints

It's my turn to host the challenge at Collage Obsession this week. The theme I chose is "footprints." Please join us here to participate! Below is my digital collage for this challenge, using an image of footprints in the sand from Wikimedia Commons. Image credits are: woman's face stamp by rubber stampede; navigation images by last door down the hall.

Take a Word: Wings

I've been looking for a way to use some beautiful photos taken by my son, Ryan Pollack, at the the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum in Austin, Texas. The museum is dedicated to the work of 20th century American sculptor Charles Umlauf. In this digital collage, the image of the woman's head is adapted from one of these photos. Other elements are from Holliewood Studios.

Three Muses: Strawberries

For this challenge, I digitally created "flowers" made from strawberries. I couldn't decide which final effect I liked best, so I put all three of them in a triptych. Yum!

Collage Obsession: Oriental

For this digital collage, I combined two Chinese-themed images from Dover Designs, and used various blending, filter, and color combinations to get three different effects.

Take a Word: Memories

Whenever one of the online art challenges has "Memories" as a theme, I delve into my stash of old family photos to do a heritage collage. This is one of my favorites- a cowboy/cowgirl-themed birthday party my mother gave for my sister and me when we were young. I am pretty sure I'm the one on the right. The map background is from last door down the hall.

Sunday Postcard Art: Quirky

Some of the ladies I've been drawing with my new graphics tablet are pretty quirky, to say the least. Other image credits: dezinaworld, dover designs, milla.
