The image of the autumn trees was provided. I added the gardening lady, pile of leaves, frame, and other touches.

And...HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Theme Thursday Challenge: "Blue"

The digital collage I created for this "Blue" challenge reminds me of one of my favorite places--the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where we vacation for a week every July. In fact, the shell images that appear in the collage are from a photo I took of Outer Banks shells we bring home every year. I suspect I'll be looking at this piece many times during the upcoming winter to remind myself that warmer days are always ahead.

No image was provided for this collage, just the color theme.

Three Muses Challenge: "Hats"

This week's Three Muses Challenge is on the theme of "hats." (They announced it in advance so I'd already been working on it.) Here's my creation-- it was a lot of fun to work on.

Collage Obsession Challenge: "Creepy"

original image- yuk

The image provided (second one shown above--a 17th century painting of "BurgfrÀulein von Strechau") was almost too creepy for me to use. I decided to lessen the creepiness a little by creating a digital portrait of the Fraulein's somewhat more attractive younger sister. Any suggestions as to a name for her?

Two Challenges in One

my collage

art creations friday image

so-artful image

This time I combined two challenges into one digital collage (lazy or smart? not sure). The image of the key was given to us in the So-artful challenge; the toadstools were for the Art Creations Friday challenge.

Theme Thursday Challenge: "Winter"

It's a little early to be thinking about winter (I'm still traumatized by the memory of last year's blizzards!), but that was the theme of this art challenge. Here's my digital collage. Creating this one left me chilled and craving a cup of hot tea! (We were given only the theme--no image.)

Digital Whisper Challenge: "Rose"

(original image)

I'm ending my wonderful birthday by posting my digital collage for this week's Digital Whisper challenge. We were given the image of the rose. I loved creating this piece--the mood it put me in, the colors I used, and the mood it expresses.

Three Muses Challenge: "Things With Wings"

This one was such fun. No particular image was provided; we just had to use the "wings" theme.

Collage Obsession Challenge: "Man"

(original image)

This is my entry for this week's Collage Obsession challenge on the theme of "Man." The image of the gentleman was provided (shown below my digital collage). I used his slightly bulging belly and foppish demeanor as inspiration. Those of you with sharp eyes may be able to see that I "enhanced" the roundness of his tummy using (appropriately) the "Bloat" setting in the Photoshop Elements Distort/Liquify filter.

So-Artful Challenge: "What Shall I Wear to the Witches' Ball?"

(Please click on image to enlarge, for spookiest effect.)

For this challenge, we were given an image of an eerie woman with a spider, to inspire a Halloween-themed piece of art. I used the spider image (see if you can find it) and a different image of a woman, giving the digital collage a fashion theme.

Happy Early Halloween!

Art Creations Friday Challenge: Girl With Pitcher

Well, it's getting harder to keep up with all these challenges! I didn't realize how many there were, and quite a few contributors (mostly women) seem to participate in all of them-- they're an amazingly talented group. Guess I didn't know what I was getting into :)...

Here's the digital collage I did for Art Creations Friday. We were given the image of the girl carrying the water pitcher. Other image credits are: Map: graphicsfairy; willow tree: artfreebies; stone texture: Dover; stucco texture: grunge textures; flowers: miss rheas.

Theme Thursday Challenge: "Pink"

To honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Theme Thursday's challenge this week was to create a piece of art with a "pink" theme. http://themethursday.wordpress.com/2010/10/13/thursday-challenge-pink/ .We were to choose our own images to use. This digital collage is my contribution.

An interesting note: After I placed the pink ribbon around the ladies and blended the layers, I realized there was a similarly styled (gray) ribbon around the neck of the lady in the center. I hadn't noticed that before...serendipitous. So of course I tinted it pink.

Three Muses Challenge: "Vintage"

For this challenge (http://thethreemuseschallenge.blogspot.com/2010/10/three-muses-vintage-week-72.html) , I used a portrait of my maternal grandmother, Beckie Fox, as the centerpiece of my digital collage. I've been thinking a lot about her since last week, when our art journaling teacher asked the class to create a page on the theme of "a place we used to go, but no longer have access to." I immediately chose to write and create art about "Grandma's Kitchen." Beckie was born in Eastern Europe and came to the United States in the early 1900's. She lived in Baltimore, Maryland with her husband Harry, raising five daughters (whose families also remained in Baltimore), and becoming very active in the local Jewish community (and a fabulous cook).

I've been starting to create digital collages with some of the many "heritage" photos that are now in my possession, and this is one of my favorites so far.

Collage Obsession Challenge 28: "Corsets"

I really enjoyed participating in this week's Collage Obsession challenge! The theme was "corsets." (http://collageobsessionchallenge.blogspot.com/2010/10/co-challenge-28-corset.html ). I decided not to use the image provided (a group of corseted women), but created my collage from other images.

So-artful Challenge: "Stairway to the Stars"

(original image)

I had fun with this challenge. The image provided (shown beneath my collage) reminded me of the old-time Hollywood musical sets, so I just had to populate it with dancers. Makes me want to get in there and dance too!

Theme Thursday Challenge: Red and Black

Anyone who knows me knows that red and black and white are (is?) one of my favorite color combinations. So I couldn't resist this last challenge for the week. Enjoy the weekend!

Three Muses Challenge: "Say It With Music"

Another day, another challenge. This is my digital collage on the theme of "music" for the Three Muses weekly art challenge. We were not given an image to use, just the concept. http://thethreemuseschallenge.blogspot.com/2010/10/three-muses-challenge-say-it-with-music.html.

Digital Whisper Collage Challenge 20: "Leaf"

The first image above is the collage I created for this week's DW challenge (http://digital-whisper.blogspot.com/2010/10/dw-challenge-19-leaf.html). The inspiration was the single leaf image shown below my collage. I really enjoyed working with this fall color palette!
(I know I've been remiss in not mentioning all the image credits for these collages--I'll try to be better at that.)

Collage Obsession Challenge #27: "Nightmare"

(original image)

This digital collage is for this week's Collage Obsession challenge (http://collageobsessionchallenge.blogspot.com/2010/10/collage-obsession-challenge-27.html). I wouldn't usually use such dark subject matter, but am trying to stretch my artistic tastes and techniques through these challenges. I blended the original image of the painting with a cloudy sky image (from a personal photo) that I had altered digitally. Then I applied the fresco filter to the whole collage, which increased the fiery (bloody?) atmosphere. The red blotches at the top now look to me like eerie distorted faces watching the gory madness...ugh...

I credit my husband for his help deciding which effects worked best for this collage. Thanks, Nelson!

Again, my collage is shown first, and the original image below it.
Now back to unpacking!

So-artful Challenge: "Fall Is in the Air"

I'm back from St. Louis, and back at my computer! Here's my entry for this week's "so-artful" challenge (http://jeanette-soartfulchallenges.blogspot.com/2010/10/fall-is-in-air.html). My collage is shown first, then the original image.
