Take a Word: Grandma's Recipe Book

This theme brought back delicious memories of my Grandma Beckie Fox's cooking. I don't think she used a cookbook, and when asked for a "recipe," she'd say, "I just put in a little of this, a little of that" (in her lovely Eastern European accent). I remember my mother once trying to follow along while Grandma made strudel (or some such delicacy) and writing down the instructions as she watched. Must have been frustrating :)...and I don't think we still have whatever was written down. But the flavors, aromas, and kitchen scenes remain in my memory as some of the happiest times of my childhood.

Sherry, I think I put on a few pounds just looking at this luscious collage!! My mouth is watering and all I can think of is going to the nearest patisserie for a "fix". Is that your lovely grandma?
This is such a beautiful and loving piece.

What a lovely tribute to your grandmother! I had the same problems with my mother's recipes...I can't replicate her much-loved ginger cake no matter how hard I try.xx

Oh look at that beautiful Challah!
I lived in a kosher home with friends for 10 years--I learned a LOT about food being love there!
