I'm hosting the Collage Obsession challenge this week, and have chosen the theme "Season of Light." Please stop by the CO blog and participate, or at least enjoy the beautiful art that will be created! Below is my digital collage. Menorah image is from google images; background is from a Gelli Plate print I created using a beautiful Hebrew stencil by Jessica Sporn.

Take a Word: Two
I can't create art with a theme of "two" without thinking of my twin sister, Ilene. Fortunately, our Mom took frequent photos of us, so I have many to choose from.

Sunday Postcard Art: Gibson Girls
I hadn't realized until I was looking for images for this theme on the Library of Congress website that in 1902 a design for Gibson Girl wallpaper designed by Mr. Gibson was published in Life. The caption underneath the image was: "Suitable for a bachelor apartment." This design forms the background for my digital collage, shown below. The central image is from The Graphics Fairy.

Three Muses: Gone With the Wind
We were asked by the Three Muses this week to create art using a "gone with the wind" theme. We were free to interpret it any way we wished. Here's mine:

Collage Obsession: Leonard Cohen quote
Collage Obsession has invited us to create art to illustrate the song lyrics:
“There’s a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in."
This happens to be one of my favorite quotes. For my digital collage, I used my own photo of the morning sun peeking through clouds near Yellowstone National Park, and a Gelli print background I created for an online class. I combined the two images using PSE 10 blending modes, effects, and filters.

Collage Obsession: Open Challenge
This week, Collage Obsession has invited us to submit any artwork of our choice; there's no particular theme. The piece below is a combination of my hand-drawn and digital art. I drew and painted (using Koi watercolors) the tea mug for the Draw Your Awesome Life online class I'm now taking from Joanne Sharpe. Coincidentally, in our Artful Journaling class here in Columbia, we're drawing an image every day for the month of November. Saturday's image was a cup or mug. So, here's my colorful mug, filled with Twining's decaf English breakfast tea, my favorite. The background is a combination of a Gelli plate print I created, with some extra touches added in an iPad art app.

Three Muses: Grunge/ Print Background
The Three Muses have challenged us this week to create a "grungy" collage with a print background. For my digital collage, I altered and combined various elements to create this face. I used digital brushes (Obsidian Dawn) for the eyes, hair, and splatters/spills; a nose and mouth from SJD; text background from flickr (Norma Frances) ; and background paper from Holliewood Studios. Challenging but fun!

Black, White, and One Color
This week I'm hosting at Collage Obsession, where we're asking you to create a collage using shades of black and white and one color of our choice. Please visit the challenge site and add your work to the array of beautiful art that's sure to appear! Here's my own digital collage below, which incorporates two images that I altered and combined-- a painting of a woman from Dover designs, flower image from artfreebies.com.

Soartful Challenge: Trees (Orange plus one color)
This is for the Soartful November challenge. Image credits: allfreedowload.com. I had lots of fun playing with blending modes and filters in this piece, although I tried so many combinations that I doubt I could ever reproduce this effect. Serendipity.

Take a Word: Australia!
This week's challenge is in honor of Marie (Ozstuff), who waves her magic wand from Australia each week to create and maintain the wonderful "Take a Word" challenge. The challenge is celebrating its 3rd anniversary at the end of this month. Marie is also one-third of the "Three Muses", who have a long-running online art challenge. She's also the mastermind behind the Flickr challenge sites, "Digitalmania" and "Drawing a Fine Line." I have no idea how she finds the time to do all this, but I'm very glad she does.
Image credits for my digital thank-you to Marie are: dover designs, google images, media militia, and an "aboriginal" style background created by me for an Artful Journaling class awhile ago.

Soartful Challenge: Patchwork Quilt
Here's my digital collage on the theme of "Patchwork Quilt" for Soartful this week. All patterns shown on the quilt were designed by me, using either Photoshop Elements, my Gelli plate, watercolor, or my iPad. This was an extra-fun challenge!

Collage Obsession: Your Dream View
It's my turn again to host the Collage Obsession challenge. I've asked participants to create a collage depicting a view they would love to see outside their window--a fantasy view or one based on reality. Here's my digital collage, below. I used a photo I took of the Grand Teton Mountains; and added some flowers and butterflies in the foreground, and a soft rainbow in the sky. Image credits for the flowers: last door down the hall.
