Kaylene at Collage Obsession has chosen a fascinating theme for us this week: "Renaissance Woman." I chose to do a little research and created a digital collage featuring three self-portraits by the Renaissance artist Sofonisba Anguissola (c. 1532 –1625), an Italian Renaissance painter born in Cremona. According to Wikipedia, "she received a well-rounded education that included the fine arts and her apprenticeship with local painters set a precedent for women to be accepted as students of art."
The youthful, wide-eyed self-portrait of Anguissola shown on the lower left of my digital collage was painted in 1554. The image above that (depicting her in the act of creating art) was painted in 1556. The image of her as an older woman (lower right) was painted in 1610.
Wow! she really was a Renaissance woman! Great collage!
