Quotography: New Year

A new art challenge!!!! This one is called Quotography, hosted by Kaylene on her blog, My Whisperings. The idea is that every week a theme will be posted, and participants will submit a photo they've taken and a quote to accompany it. The photo may be altered digitally, but not so the original photo is unrecognizeable.

This reminds me that a good New Year's resolution for me would be to take more photos. Currently, I take pictures mostly when we're traveling, so I'll be using those as much as I can at first. But I hope to expand my horizons and start taking more pictures in my daily (non-traveling) life.

Here's my submission for this week's challenge. I took the photo in a small art museum in Tel Aviv, Israel, about a year ago. The books were displayed in the artist's studio, as he left it when he died.

Take a Word: MOO

This theme has nothing to do with cows. A Moo is a tiny card with a template measuring 1.10 inches x 2.80 inches (or 2.79 x 7.11 centimeters). I created 3 Moos using my drawing of a woman's face, with Photoshop Elements filters and effects applied. Fun!

Collage Obsession: White

We were challenged to use only shades of white this week over at Collage Obsession. I guess some gray, brown, and even a few touches of other colors, crept into my collage. Couldn't help it! But I'm very happy with the way it turned out--a little different for me! It has hints of a New Year's theme, I think.

I created this digital collage for the last day of Hanukkah, which is today. Last night we lit all the candles on the Menorah, a warm and glowing sight.

Soartful Mid-Challenge Reminder

This menswear-inspired digital collage started with a vintage photo from Peggy Meyer Graminski, which I altered by adding the snazzy custom hats and patterned background/border. I used several Photoshop Elements patterns and my own chevron pattern.

Take a Word: Sewing

The image of the woman at the mirror is from the cover of a 1930 issue of Needlecraft magazine, which I found on a very interesting and useful site called magazineart.com. The sewing scene takes place in 1875, according to the info on this cover. The background design is from Wikimedia Commons.

Sunday Postcard Art: Steampunk Holiday

This challenge was presented as a Christmas challenge, but as I've mentioned previously, I celebrate Hanukkah at this time of year--starting this evening, in fact. Thus, here's my digital vision of a Steampunk Menorah. Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate it!

Sunday Postcard Art: Baubles

Sunday Postcard Art begins a month of holiday challenges today. The first theme is "baubles." Although this was presented as a Christmas theme, I transformed it into a Hanukkah-themed digital collage by creating "baubles" for the menorah lights. (Hanukkah is the holiday I celebrate at this time of year.) The baubles are from a stenciled design I did a while ago, enhanced with Photoshop Elements effects. I think they look quite happy atop the candles! Other elements are from allfreedownloads, miss mint, shadowhouse, and digital two for tuesdays.

Soartful: Bird Life (Holiday/Winter Colors)
