Inspiration Avenue: Over the Rainbow
Here I combined a photo I took of the morning Montana sun peeking through clouds over the mountains and water, with a rainbow image I created. I gave it a pastel effect to soften the whole image.

"Glass" Collage
I created this digital collage for a Flickr group challenge where the theme was "Glass." The main image is from a photo I took a while ago of a colored glass window exhibit at the Boston Institute of Contemporary Art. The images of women are from Moonlight Magic Studios.

Three Muses: Eggs
No doubt this digital collage was inspired by all the rain we've been getting here in Maryland. At least it's raining water here, not eggs!

New Challenge! 52 Starlets: Maureen O'Sullivan
"Missouri's Lilac" has started a fun new challenge, using classic "starlets" as inspiration. http://starletschallenge.blogspot.com/
This week's theme is Maureen O'Sullivan, who played Jane in the early Tarzan movies. I altered a digital collage I had done some time ago (featuring a woman by Mucha surrounded by wild animals in a jungle) by adding Maureen's face. She fits right in! Most images are from Dover Designs.

Take a Word: Oriental (Two Versions)
For the top collage, I combined several Chinese images from Dover Designs.
I then used various PSE filters and effects to produce a different, softer effect in the second collage--almost like a tapestry.
Sunday Postcard Art: Dada/ Surrealist
This was a tough one for me. Way outside my comfort zone. I basically started combining random images and let them lead me where they wanted to go (the results are creepy, I know). Subconsciously I was aware that the Dada movement expressed anti-war sentiment, so that may be in this piece somewhere too. Anyone want to offer their interpretation of this strange concoction?

Three Muses: Altering Mona
Our challenge this week was to alter an image of the Mona Lisa. In my digital collage, Mona is channeling her inner "Frida." Image credits: Google images.
Inspiration Avenue: Symbolic Art
Some time ago, I created a piece of Zentangle-inspired art in black and white. I realized after the fact that among the designs was an abstract Star of David, symbol of the Jewish faith. For this challenge, I took the star image, and used PSE 5 to add some of my original pattern fills. A very satisfying project.

Frida Kahlo Portrait
This is the latest graphite portrait sketch I've been working on in my Friday morning open studio class led by Carol Zika. I worked from a photograph by Imogen Cunningham. Sometimes when I draw portraits I get the distinct feeling the subject is staring at me (maybe saying something like, "My left eye is too big!"). Eerie...
For those who may not be familiar with Frida and her work, here's a Wikipedia link, she was a noted Mexican painter, known for her self-portraits. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frida_Kahlo

Two Digital Collages
Collage Obsession: Strange Little People
Rick St. Dennis provided us with the image of two children, which he encouraged us to use in a "strange" setting. I made them into carnival performers! Other image credits: vintage images, deviant scrap, fiddlette, flickr collage (mambus 2000).
Soartful: Image of Maude Feely (actress)
We were challenged to use this image of the beautiful Ms. Feely in our art piece this week. I placed her in a stage setting, where I imagine she is very comfortable. Image credits: Paula Kesselring, fiddlette, beth rimmer.

Take a Word: Exposed
This theme was a real challenge for me at first. I spent quite a while poring over my "library" of images. Then I remembered a site I'd recently discovered called magazineart.com, where images of vintage magazines are posted (for viewers' personal use, I presume). Here I combined the face and body from two different "Theatre Magazine" covers to get the desired effect. The mask is from njj4 (flickr creative commons). The final serendipitous effect was a spotlight filter from Photoshop Elements.
Sunday Postcard Art: Weddings
The Pennywhistles, who also got married this week, were quite upset to be upstaged by William and Kate. Here they're demonstrating how much fun they had at their wedding. Image credits: graphicsfairy, dover, last door down the hall.
