Even though the skies here in Maryland have been quite gray lately, summer is usually a season of intensely bright colors: flowers, butterflies, ripe fruit, oceans, pools, fireworks. Here is my tribute to those colors.

I believe this is the first time I've ever been challenged to create art with an apple theme! It sounded like fun. Some curious birds insistrd on flying into the picture, so I had to include them. There are only a few types of insects I can tolerate, such as butterflies and ladybugs. Here's my lady with hair made of flowers, and ladybugs on top! Flowers are from last door down the hall. Ladybugs from Google Images. All other elements my design.

Collage Obsession: Paris

For this piece, I digitally layered a vintage Paris postcard image, a Paris map, and some French writing. Most of the images are from graphicsfairy. In playing around with different hues, I hit upon this combination, which I love.

Our challenge this week was to use stencils in our design somehow. I used several stenciled art pieces
I had created by hand, and combined them digitally with a cute little bird I once drew. I wish a bird like this would land outside my kitchen window!

Three Muses: Postage Stamp People

I love this type of challenge--create an image of a person that incorporates a postage stamp. I used these two images to create my collage:

Next Gelli Printing Class--April 22, Howard County Center for the Arts

Happy Spring!  It's time again to create some beautifully patterned paper with Gelli plate printing. I'll be leading my next workshop ("Gel Monoprinting"), at the Howard County Center for the Arts on Wednesday afternoon, April 22. As always, please feel free to share this information with others who may be interested.

As in my previous workshops, I will introduce basic Gelli printing techniques, and we will create fun and colorful prints. This time I also plan to share a few techniques that I didn't cover in past classes.

Sunday Postcard Art: Full Moon

While looking for full moon images on wikimedia commons, I found an image of a map of the moon made by Thomas Harriot in the early 1600's. It surprised me that someone was able to do this so long ago. I've incorporated it into my "Moon" digital collage, below.  The early world map shown in the collage is from Pepin Press.

For this challenge, I layered a photo I took of the Grand Teton Mountains several years ago, with a NASA photo of the planets and a celestial map from Google Images.
