Take a Word: Angel
Please click for larger view |
I was on my iPad when I saw this week's challenge theme, which prompted me to use a drawing app to try to create a piece for the theme. After I drew the angel, I embellished her in Photoshop Elements with more color and my own drawn/painted patterns, and added a background adapted from my own design. Time-consuming, but such fun on a gray and rainy Saturday!
(Sorry for the multiple postings for this piece.Operator error!)

Collage Obsession: Smile
I love the soft smile on this woman's face. Her image is adapted from a Moonlight Magic Studio image. The flowers are from a photo of mine.

These houses were digitally collaged with my own patterns and patterns from other sources. The doors are scanned chipboard doors from Maya Road, altered by me.

Three Muses: Silhouette
Stork image adapted from joessistah. Background consists of two photos that I took at Yellowstone, blended together. I love the way the water in the background peeks through the silhouette and suggests feathers! Another happy accident :).

Take a Word: Organic
In this digital collage, I layered and blended a botanical tulip drawing from vintage moth with an original leafy doodle of my own. The original botanical print was in sepia tones with a little yellow; my leafy sketch was in shades of green on a red background. I like the way the colors of my sketch peek through the flowers, and the way my vines provide a delicate, neutral background for the piece. A fun experiment!

Collage Obsession: Headdress
Quite a challenge this week! We were to incorporate a "headdress" into our collages, taking inspiration from hairdo's of the past. I love these unusual themes, though they tend to keep me up late at night, fooling around with Photoshop Elements. Image of the woman below from magazineart.org. Beehive image from Google images. Bees from Graphics Fairy. Alterations by me :).

Three Muses: Time Quote
I couldn't resist using a circus-related quote for this challenge, since I haven't done a circus themed piece in quite awhile (and, as you know, I love them).

Three Muses: White Space
This week we were asked to leave some "white space" in our collage (doesn't have to be white, but an open area of one color). This was a real challenge for me! (I like pattern and colors and embellishments). So I stepped a tiny bit outside my comfort zone. Here's my "blue-gray space" collage. Image credits: holliewood designs.

Collage Obsession: Long Hair
An unusual and fun theme for Collage Obsession this week: Long Hair. My collage features a mermaid stamp that I carved (I gave her some temporary hair extensions to fit the theme), and digitally layered Gelli print backgrounds.

Three Muses: Freestyle/ Art
This week the Three Muses have challenged us to create a freestyle collage, using the word "art" in some way. My contribution is shown below. Background is my design.

Farewell to Soartful: Owl Challenge
After five inspiring years, the Soartful Challenge is ending. I loved being part of the design team with Patti, Peggy, and Sheila, but it was time for us to move on to other creative endeavors. The final theme is "Owls." Below is my collage. Owl drawing is mine.

Collage Obsession: Bride
I'm glad Halloween is tomorrow, because I'm ready to move on from the dark, creepy collages I've been creating! Here's the last one, for Collage Obsession's theme of "Bride."

Digital Whisper: Web
This is for the Digital Whisper challenge, a new one I'm participating in. The web image was from Google search, the patterns are mine. I applied many filters/effects/blending modes, some by accident :)

Sunday Postcard Art: Spooky
I can hardly believe it's October already! Sunday Postcard Art has challenged us to make "spooky" art. Here's my attempt.
"Order of the Opus Gluei" challenge: Time
During my break, I started creating mini-collages with some of my Gelli prints (they were taking over my house!). So I thought I'd enter a couple of "hands-on" art challenges in addition to digital ones. This one is for the "Opus Gluei" challenge theme of "Time."
The collage was hand-created with altered map and clock images, Gelli print strips, and altered chipboard for the dimensional clock. I added the word "Time" digitally.

I'm Back! Presenting Collage Obsession: Diva
I'm finally back after my long break. I missed my online friends so much that I just had to jump back into the challenges after my busy summer. I decided, however, not to continue on the design teams for Collage Obsession and Soartful. This will give me more time to devote to the hands-on art I've been doing lately, in addition to participating in some of the digital challenges again. Thanks to all my blogging friends who kept in touch with me!
Here's my collage for this week's Diva challenge at the newly revived Collage Obsession site. Thank you, Kirsi, for keeping this challenge going. We were given the image of the woman, and I added the animals (divas themselves, apparently) and other touches.

Taking a Break
To my faithful readers:
It just occurred to me that I haven't posted anything on this blog for a while. Hopefully this hiatus will be temporary. This is quite a busy summer for me. Among other things, I've been preparing to lead another Gelli workshop this Friday; getting ready for our son's August wedding in Austin (designing rehearsal party invitations and photo displays); and doing lots of fun homework for Joanne Sharpe's latest online lettering class (see below). So, digital art has taken a lower priority than usual. Hopefully I'll be back to blogging in the fall, maybe with a somewhat broader focus.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Take a Word: Altering Mona
Our challenge this week is to alter the Mona Lisa in some way. I've transported her into Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss," where she seems quite blissful.
