Take a Word: Song

This week we were challenged to use a song as inspiration for our art piece.

I can't give image credits right now because I'm still having computer problems and sometimes cannot access my Photoshop Elements files.

Three Muses Challenge: "I've Been Zettied!"

Our challenge this week was to transform a famous person into a Zetti figure. Mine ended up being Frida Kahlo (I know, I've been using her a lot lately, but her face is so dramatic and recognizable, and she fits in well with art-type themes).

Collage Obsession: Honeysuckle

"Honeysuckle Beach", my digital collage

Honeysuckle

Collage Obsession is starting to give us some color challenges instead of theme challenges, which I think is just wonderful (see title of my blog!).

The first color challenge is Honeysuckle, the color of the year for 2011, according to leading color guide Pantone.

“In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Honeysuckle derives its positive qualities from a powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum.”

I gave my honeysuckle-themed collage a beachy theme, since it's summer, and my heart is still at the beach, even though we've been back for over a week.

Summer of Color: Purple

All of the patterns in this digital piece are from my original artwork. The peacock image (originally black and white) is from graphicsfairy.

Summer of Color: Red

This week's Summer of Color theme is Red. The black, cream and red background behind the bird in this digital piece is from a paper collage I did for an art journal page some time ago. The bird on a branch is an altered version of a photo I took of a robin at Yellowstone, with my hand-painted pattern superimposed on it.

Summer of Color: Yellow

This week's challenge is yellow, and we were also challenged to add a touch of something metallic.  I used one of my favorite techniques: using digital touches to add to and embellish my own hand-drawn art. The rubber-stamped woman's face in the center is by Hampton Art Stamps. The Zentangle-inspired art surrounding this image is my original creation. Most of the patterns that fill the leaves and flowers are from my original art as well, as is the yellow textured background border. The gold antique heart charm image is by Miss Mint.

Take a Word: Stars and Stripes!

I'm posting this a bit early because I've had lots of computer trouble today and, now that I finally got the Internet working for me, I want to take advantage of it while it lasts. This is the sample piece for the upcoming week's Take a Word Challenge, with a Fourth of July Theme.

To those of you who celebrate this holiday, enjoy!!!
