Theme Thursday: Game/Puzzle Piece
The "puzzle" background is from Photoshop Elements; all other artwork is by me. The puzzle piece image is a scan of a pin I made for art journaling class last fall. We used real puzzle pieces that we painted, stacked, embellished, and/or Zentangled; with amazing and varied results. We then sold them at a craft show and donated the proceeds to a county Parks and Recreation fund.

Three Muses: Steampunkerie
I had SO much fun creating this menagerie of steampunk-y zoo animals!

Inspiration Avenue: Self-Portrait
This is something I created a while ago. It started out as a digital "art journaling" doll, then morphed into a holiday greeting, then into a small "created by Sherry" image I can place on my digital or paper artwork. I can use it as a digital brush, or an actual image. I used various PSE shapes and graphics, my Zentangle designs, etc. The sign she's holding in this version was hand-lettered by me, and scanned into PSE. She (like me) has short hair and glasses, and likes to wear dangly earrings, and black and white. Who knows where she'll turn up next?

Collage Obsession: Lazy Days
original image |
We were given the image of not-very-modest "Ursula" in her hammock to incorporate into our art piece this week. I put her in a circus-themed collage. Seems her ever-hopeful beau Jules is always looking for her somewhere...and she seems to delight in hiding from him.

So-Artful Challenge: Thailand Painting
original photo |
This week, So-Artful provided us with the gorgeously colored Thai "lime painting" shown above, for inspiration. I layered it with a photo of a "laughing Buddha" that I found on a wonderful site called thailandpictures.org. They allow use of their pictures for many purposes. I can't look at this Buddha without smiling myself!
Take a Word Challenge: Bloom
This is one of my favorite quotes (I may have used it before in a digital collage). Image credits: holliewood, dover.

Theme Thursday: Orange
Now I'm craving a juicy, ripe orange, or at least some freshly squeezed orange juice...

Collage Obsession: Tramp
original image |
We were challenged to create art based on the "tramp" theme, and were given the two pictures shown above for inspiration. I found a couple more images of Charlie on Google images, and imagined him having a passion for flying. I particularly like the image I used in the background- if you look closely you can see Charlie's face peering out.

Take a Word Challenge: Architecture
Apparently, Mr. and Mrs. Fitzwater took it upon themselves to design their own house, with "interesting" results.

Three Muses: Fish
This is a digital collage I created last year, from a photo we took in the Outer Banks of North Carolina (actually, it's a view from our timeshare apartment). I was playing around with special effects, and somehow these colorful flying fish found their way into the collage. I call it "Kill Devil Hills at Night."

Collage Obsession: Many
Abstract themes such as this one are very challenging for me. Again, I found a quote that helped me along.

So-Artful Challenge: Three Ladies
The image of the three behatted ladies in the center was provided. (I thought they looked rather mischievous.) Other image credits: pringle hill, beth rimmel, milla, rubyblossom, fiddlette, scraporchard.

Sunday Postcard Art: Number One
Hmmmm...I had quite a bit of trouble coming up with something for this theme. I finally turned to one of my favorite solutions: finding a quote to inspire me. Since the ocean inspires me also, I gave it a beachy theme.

Theme Thursday (Hats) and Take a Word (Green)
I couldn't resist combining these two challenges. Few people know that George Washington suffered quite a letdown each year after his birthday celebration, so he always planned a big St. Patrick's Day party for all his friends and associates. Here he is, pondering a big decision.

Sunday Postcard Art: Illusions
The center image is a poster I found among the public domain images on the Library of Congress website. I surrounded it with some mysterious ladies who are here one minute...and gone the next. Where did they go???? Only Thurston knows...

Friday Foto Collage: Tulips
Peggy posted the most beautiful tulip photos for us to play with. I couldn't resist the colors! Here are some of them, surrounding a happily reading little girl. It looks kind of like a Mary Englebreit design to me.

Art Creations Friday: Fiddler
For this challenge, where we were given a sepia image of a man with a fiddle, I transposed a "Fiddler on the Roof" to the Old West. Just before posting it, I saw that Deann of The Whimsey Asylum had beat me to it--her "Fiddler on the Roof" theme has similar colors, with a moon shining bright! Great minds think alike! Wonderful work, Deann. You can check out Deann's blog here (she's a genius):

Three Muses: Ancestors
My paternal grandfather, Hyman London, came to the U.S. as a young man from Eastern Europe in the very early 20th century. Several years later, his sweetheart, Jenny Goldberg, joined him and they settled in Baltimore, Maryland. They had two sons: Judah and Harry (my father). Harry married Bonnie Fox; and they remained in Baltimore, raising three children (me, my twin sister, and our younger brother). There are now three handsome and wonderful "London" grandsons.
The picture on the bottom left is of Jennie with (I believe) two of her sisters. The middle one was definitely a sister named Freyda. Freyda went on to marry a Rabbi Ferber of London, England, who became prominent in the European Jewish community.
The background is from a copy of the U.S. 1930 Census Record, showing Hyman, his wife, and two sons residing in Baltimore.
