Summer Bird
Still inspired by Drawing Lab, I first I drew this bird in black pen, then filled it with my "zen-type" doodles, then filled the small spaces spaces digitally with colors and a pattern made from one of my scanned journal page backgrounds. I know that's probably a little hard to follow, but trust me...it's a very colorful way to spend a few summer hours.

Something New
I just bought a new book called Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists, by Carla Sonheim. This book is just plain fun. One of the exercises involves making quick little drawings of imaginary cats, and another suggests filling in similar sketches with doodling. So I tried drawing some cats, and later filled them with doodles similar to what I've been doing in my "Zentangle-inspired" work. Then (of course) I added some Photoshop Elements effects for extra fun. Here's one example-- this one must have been inspired by colors and costumes worn in India.

New Blog Banner Image
My new blog banner is a digital collage I created several months ago (not sure if I've posted it before). It combines a paper-napkin decoupage background I did in art journaling class; digital images of a robin, nest, and butterfly wings; and digital stamps in a music pattern.

NYC Energy, Part II
One of the photos I took in NYC at night didn't "turn out." I don't remember why- it may have had something to do with my camera flash (or lack thereof). Instead of buildings, signs, etc., I just got vertical streaks of light. Just now, I altered it slightly in PSE, and will probably use it as a background for a digital collage some day. Sigh...such fun!
