"Waiting"

I think I've been remiss at crediting blogs and websites for the images I've adapted for my digital collages. (The images are usually offered free for artists' limited use.) Here, the mermaid and the shell behind her are from graphicsfairy.com, the clock is from lastdoordownthehall.blogspot.com, and the fish and starfish from Dover Designs.

Here are some photos from our Artful Journaling class exhibit at the Howard County central library. It'll be there until the end of May.

Teddy

I'm taking Carol Zika's portrait drawing class at the Columbia Art Center for the second time, and enjoying it even more than last time. Here's a portrait of Teddy Roosevelt I drew from a magazine photo (he's Nelson's hero...who knew?). Since I spent so much time drawing Teddy, I feel that he and I can now be on a first-name basis. Pardon the smudges-- every time I think I have all of them erased, they seem to reappear...

In Remembrance

Today's digital collage is in memory of my Dad, Harry London, who died two years ago today. The background is a copy of a 1907 postcard written in Yiddish from his mother in Russia to his father in the U.S., before she joined him here to be married. The large photo on the left is one of my favorite photos of Dad-- he was happily enjoying his bagel and lox at a family brunch. The red heart image underneath this photo is from an unfinished scrapbook my Mom kept shortly after my parents were married, that I found after Dad died. (I was amazed to see how similar my creative style is to hers.) The upper right photo is of Dad holding me and my twin sister Ilene as babies (don't ask me which is which!); and the lower right photo is of Dad with his grandsons Ryan, Brent, and Jonathan; and my brother Bob.

'Night

I'm doing a little digital collage to try to wind down from my weekly portrait drawing class. I used a butterfly image from Dover Publications and filled areas with various animal print patterns, then applied an "exclusion" filter that basically inverts the colors. I'm now sleepy, so I think my plan worked. Good night!

Riverwalk Mist

I'm just getting around to doing a digital collage with some photos I took in San Antonio in March. Nice memories...
